Overview

In this follow-up episode, PDA Society CEO Ed continues the conversation with Clare Truman, educator, author and PhD researcher, exploring what can help when school feels unmanageable for PDA learners.

Building on the first discussion, Clare delves deeper into how distance learning, flexible timetables and creative education packages can meet the needs of children and young people who struggle to attend school. She shares examples from her work supporting learners through Spectrum Space Education, illustrating how individualised approaches can rebuild trust, confidence and engagement in learning.

Clare and Ed also discuss the importance of collaborative communication between families, professionals and schools, and how curiosity, flexibility and compassion can transform educational experiences for PDA learners.

Key Themes

  • Supporting PDA learners through alternative and flexible education
  • Rebuilding trust and confidence after negative school experiences
  • The role of collaboration between families, professionals and schools
  • Reducing anxiety and increasing engagement in learning
  • Recognising progress beyond attendance
