Overview

This trainer-led, CPD-accredited course delivered across two sessions is designed to build confidence and understanding among social care professionals supporting autistic children with a PDA profile (whether formally diagnosed, self-identified, or exploring the profile). Many traditional autism approaches can be unhelpful or even counter-productive for PDA children. This course explores alternative, person-centred ways of working that focus on reducing demands and building trusting partnerships based on flexibility, collaboration, and respect for autonomy. The course is primarily written for social workers, but will also be relevant to other social care professionals and those working alongside families in home environments. It is suitable for anyone supporting PDA children and young people up to the age of 18. During the course, we will explore: What PDA is and how it can present What we mean by demands, and how they affect PDA children A range of supportive, practical approaches The impact on siblings and families Diagnosis and navigating education

This course aims to help professionals feel better equipped to understand PDA and to work in ways that make everyday life easier for children and families.
